It's not surprising, but it's interesting to have actual data from a major website like Goodreads to show the percentage of men and women reading each genre. Overall women read a much wider range of books than men. The least popular genre for women is philosophy, which is still read by over 40% of female readers. In contrast, only 10 of the 50 genres listed have more than 40% of male readership. Men prefer more serious topics like philosophy, science, religion, politics, history and non-fiction, while women overwhelmingly dominate the readership of romance novels, erotica, but also categories like paranormal, magic, fantasy, mystery, suspense and thriller.
