This paper examines the question of the distribution and numbers of indigenous peoples of North America north of Mexico (in what is today the United States and Canada) since year 1500 until year 2025, with special focus on years 1500, 1783, early 20th century, 1950-1951 and 2020-2021. The author uses the so called "bottom up" approach in order to estimate the initial size of indigenous populations at the time of the onset of early contact with European settlers.

What is interesting is that Canada now has twice as many Indians as it had in 1500, while in the USA the population has not yet rebounded to the pre-contact level, and probably never will, judging by the meagre growth between 2010 and 2020.

Let me know if you want me to add more graphs or/and maps and/or tables to the article.

Of course tell me what should be depicted by these additional graphs or maps or tables.

I invite you to read my new research paper about this topic:

Also let me know if anything in the paper could be improved.*

The fact that the Chinooks have the lion share of Native American population in the Oregon Country; yet still have no Federal Recognition.

Federal Recognition is long overdue, this situation is not based.

Here is a map of the native tribes of North America during the Pre-Columbian era.

Very good map! I like it because it has modern state borders overlaid on tribal territories.

Here is another similar map, also with modern state borders added for comparison:

(I think the one you posted is even more detailed)

It is also a good map. I was actually searching for a map from a Panini stickers album, published in the 70s, about the native tribes of North America, called West. It was one of the best graphic work I've ever seen on this subject, but I couldn't find any with a good resolution. The best I found was this, in Dutch. But the map I posted and yours end up being better.

Native Land
Interactive map that presents the different indigenous peoples who lived in various regions of the world.
It collaboratively brings together data from various sources, including oral histories, historical documents, as well as maps made by authorities. In addition to identifying the ancient territories — prior to colonization — the map also shows the languages spoken in each region.
The peoples are identified in different colors, allowing you to click on each one to access more information about them, as well as access the data sources. It is also possible to search by country, state or city, to identify which peoples lived in specific locations.
