pit oven burning wood.jpg

An earth oven or cooking pit is one of the simplest and longest used cooking structures. It is also
the oldest oven type used by people. The earliest ones were found in Central Europe, and dated to 29,000 BC. They were situated inside mammoth bone yurts and were used to cook mammoth meat.

So what is an earth pit oven? And how are they linked to the invention of ceramics and pottery?

Maleth thank you for your kind comment. As for your picture. There is a lot of chared remains around the stone circle so something was definitely burning there. Dept is not a problem. pit ovens can be very shallow. its hard to tell, but it is possible that it was a ceremonial oven or hearth. It is done too nicely to be just a normal oven or a hearth....It is an interesting design anyway.

You are welcome and thanks for opinion.
