Xiongnu chanyu himself belong to This,R-174827,they did capture some hostage afther battle of mobei,to show the victory,this 174827 also shows up in another highest level of tomb which unpublished data

Xiongnu's left king and right King E,J,G family also died out,most of the those who have downstream are mostly dead end.Xiongnu's haplogroup are minority in steppe,different from todays mongolians.
The book of Han record might correct,That Han dynasty did genocided them.
Southern Xiongnu are mostly C,O,which some guess they evolved from shanrong

Considering that there were , the Xiongnu may have been weaker than the Dawenkou Culture and Devils gate Culture
 
The Xiongnu originally had a relatively stable phenotype. The expansion of the original Han O2-M122 actually directly led to a large number of deaths of haplogroups Q and R on the steppe. In the end, it became a large number of different phenotypes, mainly due to the escape from the Han Dynasty,The result of mixing with the original Scythians of Central Asia.
