Songs in Italian

You're not Mediterranean if you don't FEEL this song.
Im not into Mediterranean songs, and its very possible to be of a certain ancestry and not be into that ancestry's songs. :spiderman:

You're not Mediterranean if you don't FEEL this song.

It's a beautiful song, Zanatis; I do indeed feel it.

Yet, I was an adult, and in the U.S. before I knew anything about that kind of music.

This is the wrong thread for folk music, but this is "our" regional music...

Or, for another example, a song I learned to sing very early in my life...

Is that right? I guess I learned something new today. Thank you and please feel free to educate a less sophisticated brother from the good Old Europe anytime.

All songs have the ability to transmit emotions of all kinds, such as euphoria, adrenaline, aggression, adventure, melancholy, etc., but they all last very shortly and disappear usually once you’re done listening. But it’s such songs like the one you posted that affect us the most (IMO) and transmit happiness, peace, and the cozy feeling of being home and enjoying time with the beloved ones.

Giorgia...Gocce di Memoria

Natale (Christmas)-Francesco DeGregori

The only really Italian Christmas carol...Tu Scendi dalle stelle...with English subtitles...

Anna Identici...When I Fall In Love

When I fall in love

They say that I can not
find a flower
and I do not have anything
to give.
They say that there is a nail
in my heart
and that is why it
can not beat.
But my boyfriend
knows that it is not true,
My boyfriend knows
that when
When I fall in love
I do all the good possible
for he who is in love with me,
and there is no one
who can change me,
who can get me away from him.

When I fall in love
I do all the good possible
for him who is in love with me,
and there is no one
who can change me,
who can get me away from him.

And the love that
comes to life
and my life
I give the love to him
Who tells me to live
another day
I'll reply that...
that...
when...

Laura Pausini..."My biggest mistake"

"You knowYou've gotten me in trouble
My eyes are islands
Where you never travel
You're good
Maybe better than me
At deceiving me without a mask
And me at trusting you
It lasted just a flash
I was deceived by us
But with woman's intuition
Today I know what (who) you are

A game I never win
My biggest mistake
What anger you cause me!
The trap in my days
Yes, my biggest mistake
But that I'd make again

Tell me, Tell me how you are
You seem like a depressed angel
That never flies
I swear that I would marry you
But there's a devil hidden in the tears
That you give me

It lasted just a flash
I was deceived by us
But it's not right to be dramatic about it
Since I know who you are

A game I never win
My biggest mistake
What anger you cause me!
The emptiness beneath my steps
You are my biggest mistake
But that I would make again
I contradict myself
With my kisses but that's how it is
You put out the lights and it continues
I'm lost for you"

I bought this on CD when it first came out.

True story: one afternoon at university soon after she got there my daughter was playing her and a South American exchange student came running in and said, I love Laura, I didn't know Americans listened to her! I think she's more popular in Latin America than in Italy even. I don't know how many Latin Grammys she's gotten.

"Se Telefonando" by Mina set to scenes from a film of Monica Vitti, "L'Aventura". She projected incredible sensuality, I think.

Fun video showing people all around the world singing Neapolitan songs: Japan, Holland, Poland etc. They look dorky, but they mean well. :)

Fabulous. It's truly amazing how loved this song is around the world.

Coming from where I do there isn't a gathering of any sort where this isn't sung, but I still get chills.

One of my favorite renditions is from this old priest from Genova who sings it at the end of Mass and also pulls out the red scarf he was wearing underneath his cassock. :)

We haven't forgotten.

"Wind of Passion": Giorgia and Pino Daniele

"The memory of a loveGoes through my mind
And there's no reason
When we search for what's left
It's like a wind of passion
Or a red rose
The memory of a love
Changes us and doesn't leave us

If I had had at least an opportunity
Now that I've found the right words
But the memory of a love
Keeps on coming through my mind

The memory of a love
Leaves salt in mouth
And arrives straight to heart
Without even warning
It's a love letter
It's the song of the sea
The memory of a love
Speaks to us and doesn't go away

If I had had at least an opportunity
Now that I've found the right words
But the memory of a love
Keeps on coming through my mind"

"Angela, Angela" by Luigi Tenco.

I've been on a Luigi Tenco binge. I love gorgeous, tortured men singing of their lost love and woes, what can I tell you? :)

Couldn't ignore this one since this is what most of my Italian family calls me!

Moral of the story: don't play with love to enjoy your sense of power over someone else.

"Angela, Angela, my angel,
I didn’t think that this night would truly be a good-bye
Angela, believe me I didn’t want it
Angela, Angela, my angel
When I told you I wanted to go
I just wanted to see you cry
Because I like watching you suffer
I wanted to make you cry
To see your tears
Feeling that your heart is in my hands..
Angela, Angela, my angel
But tonight instead of crying,
You look at my face in a strange way.
As if it were already far away
I beg you, Angela, no, don’t leave me
You can’t leave me down here all alone
It’s impossible: it’s all too sudden
I can lose you, lose everything
Angela, Angela, my angel,
I didn’t think that this night would truly be good-bye
Angela, believe me I didn’t want it
Repeat and repeat:
Angela, Angela, my angel.

This is a nice one because you can see the audience reaction. Plus, it's beautiful: Vedrai, Vedrai byLuigi Tenco

"When I return home in the eveningI barely can even talk
please don't look at me with that tenderness
as if I were a disappointing child
Yes, I know. This surely is not the life
that you dreamed one day the two of us we'd share

You'll see, you'll see,
You'll see that it will change
maybe it won't be tomorrow
but one day it will all change

You'll see, you'll see,
I am not finished yet
I can't tell you how or when
but one day it will all change

I'd rather see you crying,
accusing me of failing you
then see you always react so tenderly
so accepting of what little I give you
when I think of you, I despair
because I just can't give you anymore.

You'll see, you'll see,
You'll see that it will change
maybe it won't be tomorrow
but one day it will all change

You'll see, you'll see,
I am not finished yet
I can't tell you how or when
but one fine day it will all change
