I`m pretty sure we all of us are well acquainted with the name William Shakespeare.
Some of us may have read his works for pleasure whilst others among us may have had to do so for examination purposes
etrified:
I wonder however, if many knew that the great Elizabethan playwright was actually a "hoarder"...and an illegal one at that?
According to a study done at Aberystwyth University, the famous bard was not only threatened with jail for "tax evasion" but he was also an illegal grain hoarder. It seems the bard bought and stored grain, malt and barley, which he then resold at "inflated" prices to tradespeople and neighbours during times of food shortages.
It seems Shakespeare was actually prosecuted at one point for hoarding this grain during a time of food shortage.
Of course another way to look at this is that the times in which Shakespeare lived were hard. There were food shortages and poverty. He may well have seen this as a way to provide for his family.
