The performance of an opera of Mozart, Idomeneo, will be cancelled in Berlin due to security risk after Islamic threats. The reason for the Muslim wrath was that the main character reflects over the severed heads of Poseidon, Buddha, Jesus and the prophet Mohammed.

=> Forbes : Berlin Opera Pulled Over Muhammad Scene

Voltaire, one of the most acclaimed French writers and philosophers of all time, saw one of his works similarily censored because of his depiction of Mohammed's fanaticism, aimed at criticising the Catholic Church at the time.

These are two examples of some of the greatest 18th-century European artists that come under the fire of 21st century Muslim extremists.

While we are fighting to defend free speech of our citizens, like in the incident of the Mohammed cartoons in newspapers a few months ago, the fanaticism of Islamic militants strengthens to the point of attacking the works of admired artists who died over 200 years ago. I find it utterly unacceptable. If there is a law in Germany against the public display of racism or nazi symbols, there should equally be a law banning religious fanatics from threatening or accusing well-respected artistic performances, or otherwise attempting to hinder the liberty of speech, especially in the arts.

It's just horrible that a majority has to bow down to the will of a minority. Especially since the majority are the citizens of the country/city in question. I would rather take the risk of repercussion than compromise such rights tha we enjoy today. This is censorship by fear,, totally unaccetable!!!

I think it's bad and against western principles to censor classical art.
As Muslims gradually gain more influence in the European Union it'll be more difficult to deny their demands.

Coming back to the global Muslim uprising against the cartoons of Muhammad, what was criticised most by the Muslims was the association of Islam with violence, especially the depiction of Mohammed with a bomb in his turban. Likewise, the Muslim world was outraged at the Pope's speech linking Islam and violence. My reaction is two-fold :

1) By burning embassies and churches, staging violent protests and vowing to destroy the West and issuing fatwa (death condemnations) against the authors of the cartoons, the Muslim world only confirms the stereotypes insinuated by the cartoons and the Pope.

2) How on earth can the Muslim world condemn a visual representation of Islam linked to weapons, when Saudi Arabia, the holy land of Islam, as well as the most famous Muslim organisations proudly display swords/sabres or even a AK-47 on their own flags next to religious statements, some directly from the Qur'an ? See by yourself :

Translation: "There is no deity to be worshipped besides God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God" + a sabre.

Muslim Brotherhood symbol. The Arabic script reads, "...and be prepared.", with two sabres.

Flag of the Hezbollah. The bottom text means "The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon". The upper text means "Then surely the party of Allah are they that shall be triumphant". (Quran 5:56) The green text is the name of the group ?\ with the first letter of "Allah" reaching up to grasp a Soviet AK-47.

Sometimes it seems like people only want to look at it in black and white. :souka: I mean, either to believe that all Muslims are violent extremists, or on the other side to say that Islam is not a religion of violence and ignore what is clearly going on (and depicted in your examples above). :o

So much for multi-culti, assimilation and the tolerance of Islam. How come they even protest, last time I went to the opera or to a play, and the time before, and the time before that, I haven't seen many muslims, apart from a couple of waiters.

Well, I thought everybody knew the Danish cartoon incident was a setup.
A right wing group sent information to some Muslim fundamentalist Mullah, who showed the stuff to some fanatics.
Then it was easy to get a lot poor Muslims on the street that start shouting.

This is a new kind of play. It's more likely coming from right wing groups that like to portray Muslims as dumb asses.

And.. Who cares for opera anyway. But, they should not give in to blackmail.

That's a serious charge, but who is this "right wing group" you are speaking of? Sounds like another off-the-wall conspiracy theory. And even if it was true, the Muslims are still "dumb asses" to have reacted in the way that the "right wing group" suspected that they would. So if certain Muslims are "dumb asses" regardless, what's the need for a conspiracy?

You have an A+ for logic, lol.

you do realise that muslim religion does not accept any other religions and also non-religions. it barely tolerates its own muslim division between shite and sunni.

It's a fact.. And yes, some Muslims are dumb ass enough to swallow fascist propaganda.
That's what happened in Denmark!

Well.. To pleasure you with your conspiracy theories.. Those Danish right wing fascists may have connections with the CIA and MI5 of course!

In The Netherlands the fascist Geert Wilders is also financed by American conservative organizations..

Well.. Silence in this thread is deafening my ears...
It seems I hit the nail right on the head.

I don't think that's why people aren't responding...

But I will give you credit for this at least:

In The Netherlands the fascist Geert Wilders is also financed by American conservative organizations..

He is known to have very close ties to David Horowitz and his "Freedom Center" which expresses the same sorts of political opinions about Muslims and immigration as Wilders. I think that's pretty public, though, nothing really behind-the-scenes there.

ISLAMIC HOLY INQUISITION

the link is Greek language
it says about Pakistan and a strange judgement,
in an area a seich send a christian in judge and then in jail for 'suposed' bad words against mohamed,

THE MAN FACES A LIFE TIME SPEND IN PRISON, FOR SUPOSED Mobile Messages That spoke 'bad' against Mohamed,
I WONDER IS ISLAM IN MODERN WORLD EXPERIENCING STILL 'ISLAMIC HOLY INQUISITION'?
IS THERE A CHANCE THAT SOON EUROPE WILL HAVE TO FACE SUCH PHENOMENA.

if we do not stop this madness, soon forums like that will be ban for insulting Allah and his prophet,

to honest, they are better than some inquisitors who send people to fire, but still life time in prison is enough.

Maciamo: I agree with you. It seems that with the massive migration of Muslim people into European countries, the host governments are bending over backwards to please them. In Australia, we have seen a marked increase of people from Muslim countries over the past decade or so, and the societal cracks are beginning to show. By all means permit and respect their religious beliefs and culture, but no to the detriment of the host population.

As long as Australia accepts any emigrant population shift's going to happen. The only question is how much shift are you going to accept. Even without emigrants countries change their character too, compare any country mere 100 years ago and now. Maybe the issue is that generally we don't like changes, and consider what we grew up in, as the best. Changes bring new things, and new things are rather scary to most people.
