Politics Will Russia Attack Ukraine?

Well Germany just approved a significant "Lethal aide" package to Ukraine. At least 1,000 anti Tank weapons and also anti-aircraft weapons as well. I would think these weapons will be brought to the border of Ukraine and then the Ukrainian resistance will have to get them to the destinations where they are needed. USA has approved something similar, as Belgium, Netherlands, etc, etc. There may be others that I have missed. Poland I know already has been doing that.

yes, but the request came from Ukraine 4 weeks ago
it took them a bit long to think about it

next to the courage of the Ukrainiens the cowardness of the west becomes more and more obvious
I'm ashamed

They did not decided, they were banned from fleeing, thus they are forced to fight.

Reminds me of how the soviets forced the Russian soldiers to rush the front without weapons, into German choke-points. At least they had the Allies behind them.

I went back and read the martial law order, you are correct. There is a ban against that age group from leaving. But at the same time, there are reports of 70 to 80 year old men volunteering to stay. And does it require them to fight or just not leave. Perhaps keeping the men from leaving is to ensure that the Women and Children will have an easier time crossing into Poland and Hungary.

I agree, but at least they (Germans) are doing the right thing now.

According to the new law, the men shouldn't leave Ukraine, that's true, but many are actualy willing to stay and fight.
There are even many Ukrainiens living in the EU returning to Ukraine to fight.

With Biden in charge, the USA is a paper-tiger, unless it is some weak country like Libya.

Don't worry though, Biden is absolutely focused on getting his SCOTUS pick in, while taking advantage of the media's focus on Ukraine.

Northerner: You keep missing my point. The EU, NATO, and the USA allowed Putin to destabilize NATO by precisely getting tied to Putin and Russian Oil and Gas. That has been the source of much of the contention. Trump is Trump, forget about him, because even now that he is gone, there are finally European leaders waking up that the Economic policy of Europe with Russian Oil and Gas is precisely why there was no push back on Putin when he 1) Invaded the Republic of Georgia and took over there Northern Provinces and 2) Invaded Crimea in 2014.

I have already gone down the Trump road with you. Not going to repeat it. And yes I have no use for anything Marxist. Trump's election was though a reaction to the elites of the USA regarding its arrogance towards people who still go to Church, live in small towns, own private business, working class jobs, and don't agree that 5 year old kids should be told they might need gender re-assignment surgery. That the US border is just a line that anyone can cross and to question it makes you a xenophobe. Trump, perhaps because he saw the "War fatigue" started hammering the Neo liberals (DEMS) and Neo-Cons (Republicans) who pushed for this order after the Soviet Union of globalist supply chain systems an trade, even with rouge states, with the hope that those countries would behave like the USA and Europe. It was stupid then and stupid now. I voted for George Bush 1, and to his credit, he did get an international coalition to deal with Sadam's invasion of Kuwait. But read the speech where he talks about the vital world economic impact if Sadam controlled the oil reserves in the Persian golf. This was the "new world order" speech.

As part of Bush 1 "new world Order", Bush 1 began this economic policy of globalist integration of the economic system which made the ruling elites "rich" at the expense of working-class Americans. Bush 1 would, even with the Tiananmen square incident, push for more China and USA trade relations. Despite criticisms of China and its Human rights abused, Clinton-Gore, Bush-Cheney, Obama-Biden continued Bush 1's "new world order" policies on both foreign policy and economic policy. It was and is all BS. Obama was pushing the TPP. Trump is the product of a failure of USA political leadership since the fall of the Soviet Union. Trump did not weaken NATO, NATO did to itself by allowing NATO countries Political leaders get to tied to Russia on Oil and Gas, which Putin weaponized. Trump was not a statesmen, yes, I agree, but on substance he was correct.

After this Ukraine situation is resolved, the USA, Europe, countries like Australia and Japan and South Korea in the Asia-Pacific, and other Asian countries that want to integrate with countries that respect human rights, you trade and have economic ties with those countries. Yes, there are other countries that are not "Western" or like Asian countries like Japan and South Korea that have political systems that respect human rights and free elections that you might have to deal with (Countries in the Persian Gulf). So for example, countries like Qatar (who are relative to other countries in that region better on human rights), you can sign contracts to buy Oil and Natural Gas from them but they must commit not to fund terrorism. With that in mind, we don't interfere in their domestic affairs, they don't in ours..

But it is time for the USA and NATO to totally cut ties with Putin on economics. Totally. You can still buy oil and gas (Russian) on the spot market if there is an excess demand. The USA and NATO need to also decouple from China. If 5 years from now, you and I are still here (and I hope we both are), if the USA, NATO and EU, Australia, Japan, South Korea, etc, etc are still tied to Russia and China, then shame on us. And the surest way to avoid a Trumpian type Politician, is to do exactly that. And let me be clear, I dislike Trump personally, I have already said that, but on many issues like the China trade and Russian Oil and gas issues and the entire new world order project from Bush 1 to Obama, he was correct. So my vote from my perspective was not for Trump, it was 100% against Hillary Clinton. She is part of that same Neo-Liberal/Neo-con ideological cabal that I reject.

I don't deny that, and agree with the most of your statements.

But why did they/ we acted so because the idea of Germany during Merkel was "Wandel durch Handel" (if you trade with them they become liberal too....). And the Dutch also began to export from flowers too ....you name it.

But imo is that because we (although no personal involvement but ok) thought only in economic terminology. Not in strategic. Not in moral. Not in historical terms. That's the point imo.

And my personal view is also that thinking in pure economic factors rules the other things out....ok Putin sphinx guy but hey as long as he delivers, we are doing business and have no public connotations. My liberal PM stated in the past that Nordstream 2 was a business thing had noting to with politics ().

And yesterday still such an example buch of the liberation of the energy market the Dutch municipals had to order it. Gaazprom was in many cases the lowest bidder. So that pure market thinking and total economic freedom resulted in this. In my view, this is more neoliberal than neoliberal. Now they are fed up with it...But that were "free market" things.

But it is time for the USA and NATO to totally cut ties with Putin on economics.

Agree.

And besides that we must revitalize the democratic spirit, how valuable are free election, free press, trias politica etc etc in the face of Putins Russia! Sovereignty and self chosen direction are also at stake here and now.

Don't get me wrong. I get the war fatigue in the US public and am aware of the polls. But the future of the free world might be at the crossroads here, maybe even more than the free world, the whole world order is put to a test and might crash to ashes, whatever will raise from it, it is in the interest of the free world for the US to have a say in it. The league of nations WW1-WW2, the united nations WW2-now, these are namely the previous two world orders we went through, both spearheaded by the US and stationed in NY. No one can deny despite the steep costs how much the United States and the $ has benefited from these two world orders. Now the world order is being questioned. I wonder what the next status quo will be.

Sorry for the tone in the previous post.
Also freedom is worth it. Sadly most people do not know what they have until they stand to lose it. We should not take our rights for granted.

As Angela points out, I don't know what it means to be in a former-communist country...

However, a war for the Free world? People in the United States feel like they are losing their own freedom, because aggression from our own woke government to silence dissent. The Biden administration outsources it's authoritarianism to big tech, banks, etc. Yes, we are free to choose the wrong thoughts, and suffer consequences for it.

This is why most Americans don't want to be bothered, because at least half of them don't even feel like they themselves are free, or losing their freedom.

If Ukraine was woke like the United States, then all of their problems would be fixed, I guess. That must be what freedom means, or is it freedom for woke corporations to sell their toxicity abroad?

It seems that Ukrainians (probably a mechanized infantry unit) managed to outmaneuver the Russians who besiege Kiev, and are now attacking the enemy's rear area. This fight is taking place near Ivankiv, halfway from Kiev to Chernobyl (an important road junction if you check in Google Maps):

^^^ Russian units which currently besiege Kiev might get their supply lines completely cut off by this Ukrainian counterattack.

=====

That video which I posted earlier, showing a Ukrainian soldier armed with NLAW, is apparently from these fights in Ivankiv area:

Tomenable let's hope so....And hopefully the Ukranians are effectual. Nevertheless seen Grozny, Syria when it goes bad for the Russians what will Putin order?

Possibly the first general killed in this war (if the news is true):

"Chechen general Magomed Tushayev, commander of the 141st Motorized Regiment of the Chechen National Guard, killed near Kiev."

=====

There is also a video showing a captured Russian major (also a high-ranking officer).

Me too. Italy has not been a shining beacon of light in all of this. I get it; it can't go nuclear because it sits on so many fault lines, and has no coal or iron, but there are other solutions.

You're either for a free Europe or you're not.

Russian tanks out of fuel?
I wonder whether this video is genuine.
I can't believe it.

Twitter is full of Russian bots and plants bleating the propaganda about how Ukraine is run by Nazis.

How precisely is that supposed to work if the President and the Defense Minister are Jews? I think a recent Prime Minister was also Jewish. The Ukraine of 80 years ago is not the Ukraine of today.

Heck, rabbis are tweeting from Odessa how they are praying for all the Ukrainian fighters.

Does this have something to do with the fact that the extreme right in Europe is supporting Putin? Or is it just that they think Putin will exterminate or exile all the recent non-European migrants?

Why would the extreme left be fine with Putin's push westward? Or are they not?

Russians are storming Kiev now, despite having Ukrainians in their rear area, who are causing a mess in Russian supply lines near Ivankiv. Map:

^^^
If Russian assault on Kiev fails, if they run out of ammo, while Ukrainians manage to hold Ivankiv area - it will be a recipe for a Russian disaster.

Maybe Lukashenko will finally be appointed a colonel (but the price is high, his country has de facto become a province of Russia):
