many byzantine royal family have non greek origin. such as armenian, balkanian(illiyrian,thracian possibly vlach and other balkanic people.),anatolian(kommenian dynasty origin was kastamonu city of modern turkey in nort-western anatolia and roman diogenes is anatolian descended) and mesopotamian and arabic origin exist in some byzantine royal family.

Arvanites are a much later addition and were added by the Ottomans. Yes the language was Greek and the culture was Roman/Greek but the actual Byzantine/Christian empire was not very good for Greek culture. Christians under the protection of the emperors burned libraries, closed schools of philosophy, toppled sculptures, slaughtered Greeks that believed in the old Greek Gods, etc.
A lot of the emperors were generals in the army or in the imperial guard that were elevated to the throne as a result of coups. There were a lot of infighting/civil wars just when the great population movements were happening. I am still amazed that it lasted for 1100 years.

But we have to see many things

First the marriages of nobles

do not mix Arbanites of Latinocracy with rest

The first Arbanites have origin from Maniakis army,
after the rebelion of Maniakis moved to Korone and Maniaki Peloponese, and from there to Italy.

The second Arbanites were invaded by Latin Rulers of Duchy of Athens and settle Boiotia, not Thessaly
Then from the same stuff moved to Nauplion by invitation or licence of habitation even by Palaiologos
These are the first and true Arbanites.

The rest waves are different stories,
