That unfortunate attitude of the upper class in some Latin American countries surely originates in the sensation of being a small caste that feels its own existence threatened. Here in Uruguay it seems to me that the upper class is not so strict about it ... they try to marry people with money, regardless of their origin. In fact, there are people with a lot of money (especially, landowners from the interior) who have a mestizo appearance.

Completely Spanish are not seen as they have their native American mix that gives them their own appearance, some more than others is true. To say completely is to deny reality and what is evident. I understand that for Canadian or North American producers who make documentaries about the discovery or conquest of America it is useful to use mestizo or mestizo extras and actors to interpret the scenes of soldiers, discoverers or conquerors, but you know perfectly well that they do not look completely like Spaniards of Spain, Europe, is the reality.
