For example, a person with no children means the reduced contributions to the income goes from just under 11,000 Danish kroner a month to less than 6 000.


The reduced contribution is part of a law under the Integration minister from the Liberal Party, Inger Støjberg, is the first step towards "getting back immigration policy on track".


- We must ensure that there is a financial incentive for refugees and others who come to Denmark to begin work, she says.


Critics argue instead that this will lead to increased segregation because the refugees will get harder to find housing.


- It will have serious consequences for families and especially for children, said Enhedslistens leader Johanne Schmidt-Nielsen.
