Young Muslims have rioted in several suburbs of Paris after clashes with the police, notably in Clichy-sous-Bois and Aulnay-sous-Bois, in north-east Paris.

BBC News : French hold crisis talks on riots

BBC said:
French ministers have held crisis talks after six nights of riots in immigrant communities in the north-east of Paris.
...
Unrest flared after two teenagers were electrocuted. Locals say they were fleeing police, which authorities deny.

The prime minister said a disruptive minority should not be confused with the majority, who want to integrate.
...
Correspondents say Mr de Villepin's comments were a rebuke to his political rival, Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, who has called the rioters "scum".

Both men have delayed trips abroad to try to calm the unrest, as Mr Chirac warned of a "dangerous situation".

"The law must be applied in a spirit of dialogue and respect," he said.
...
Gangs of youths clashed with police and torched 180 cars in several areas around Paris in a sixth night of violence following the deaths.
...
Police have reported sporadic incidents involving groups of youths in the Val-d'Oise, Seine-et-Marne, Hauts-de-Seine and Yvelines regions of Paris.

The events remind of the racial riots in Bradford, Northern England, 4 years ago.

BBC News : The other side of Aulnay

Here are a few reactions from locals living in one of the area worst hit by the riots.

BBC said:
In the town's richer neighbourhoods, some understand the frustration and anger of the rioters but the patience of others ran out long ago.

"It's been a week now, it's too much. They should send in the police or even the army to stamp it right out," said one man.

"It's crazy," said another. "Aulnay used to be a beautiful town and they've wrecked it."

"All this only means our taxes will have to go up to pay for the damage," said an old woman taking her poodle for a walk.

She blamed the parents for the trouble, saying: "Where are they when their 11- and 12-year-olds are out setting cars on fire at night?"

None of them wanted to give their name for fear of reprisals.
...
"I live opposite the police station and I haven't slept in the past week because of all the sirens," said another woman.
...
"There could be war," he said. "If they come to burn my car, I'll be waiting with my gun."

One of the solutions he wanted was to tighten immigration control, saying it was a shame that the rioters were born in France "or they could be sent back home, where they wouldn't be allowed to cause trouble like this".

On a separate note :

BBC said:
Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy has outraged many inhabitants of the estates by saying they should be "pressure-cleaned" of all the "rabble" who live there.
...
Some young rioters in Aulnay said the violence would continue until Mr Sarkozy resigned for his insulting comments and what they see as racist policing.

Funny that Arabs should call a minister of Hungarian origin a racist. Sarkozy's father was himself an immigrant, speaker of a non-Indo-European language (Magyar), and that did not prevent his son to become minister and maybe soon president of France. I guess there is jealousy and envy in the eyes of those young Arabs, that prefer to act like vandals and thugs than do anything constructive. They call Sarkozy a racist for calling them "vermin" after the riots started, but they don't seem to realise what they are doing. Over 2000 cars and dozens of shops burnt in 10 days... The Oxford definition of vermin is "very unpleasant and destructive people" and that matches exactly the situation.

Here is more on the exploits of the "vermins" :

BBC : French police shot by rioting mob

BBC said:
About 30 policemen have been injured by shots and stones in a Paris suburb - on an 11th night of unrest across France.

They were attacked by some 200 rioters in Grigny, south of Paris. Two policemen were seriously injured.
...
Police reported at least 839 vehicles burnt and 186 arrests on Sunday night.
...
Police chiefs said their men were being deliberately confronted by gangs apparently intent on fighting them.

"They really shot at officers. this is real serious violence - not like the previous nights. I'm very worried because this is mounting," senior police officer in the area, Bernard Franio, said.

Why is that that North Africans only represent 30% of all immigrants to France, and they are about the only ones to constantly cause trouble ? They were already the only ones to complain about the praiseworthy law banning all religious (from any religion) in public institutions. They again called that racism against Islam, which shows how dishonest (or downright stupid) they are, as it aimed as much at Christians than Muslims. This law was aimed at reducing religious discrimination against Muslims, which they visibly didn't understand. If they can't addapt to French society and culture, then why don't they immigrate back to North Africa where they'll be free to act like North Africans.

Sometimes I wonder whether Morocco and Algeria did a purge of their own trouble-makers in the 1960's and 70's. Instead of paying for jails to feed and house their criminals, their government has probably decided to them all the scum to France and Belgium, where they'd be taken care of at the tax payers' expenses. This could only benefit them, and now Morocco has become a bit more prosperous. Visibly Algeria hasn't sent enough of them given the Algerian Civil War since 1991. Just a wild speculation, but how else could we explain the Maghreban inaptitude to integrate in the French and Belgian societies, while other immigrants (Sicilians, Greeks, Turks, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indians, etc.) do not have such problems ? Or is that a ethnico-cultural predisposition of them to cause chaos and violence ?

If they are so unhappy in France and Belgium, why don't they go somewhere else ? (e.g. the US, or any Muslim country). As French citizens on paper (well for most of them), that wouldn't be so difficult visa-wise.

I agree Maciamo. They maybe do not like to be called scum or something in that line. But the way they act proves they actually are ! Most of the time there are problems with immigrants, when we say anything about it we are called 'racists'.If they would make an effort in integrating, and didn't cause too many problems things would be going the right way. They come here acting like they live in Morroco or Turkey or Algeria, playing their Arab music too damn loud and showing of their national flags. This behaviour only grows hate towards them. :okashii:The fact they even can build damn mosques all around the country disturbs me.One reason why after graduating I'm planning on living outside Europe far away from all these problems.
