Elon Musk is not only the richest person on Earth, he is also one of the most hyped and mediatised person in the world. In fact he is a master at self-promotion... and deception. Few really famous people lie more often than him, and that includes politicians. One of his most famous lies is that he co-founded PayPal and Tesla (he actually joined later as an investor).

Tesla

The third video below quotes how the SEC investigation found 150 "mistruths" (a more diplomatic term for "lies") in Elon Musk's PR over Tesla, constantly misleading investors to manipulate the stock price. He has also promised completely autonomous self-driving cars since 2014 and they still aren't there. It's broken promise upon broken promise. The man is a born politician.

But the lie that bugs me the most, because it has a huge impact on Earth's future, is that Tesla cars, or electric cars in general, help combat global warming, when in most cases they only make it worse. I have opened a separate thread to explain all this in detail. It's extremely insidious as the man has almost single-handedly launched the EV industry by advertising it as a way to save the planet from global warming, when it is in fact making it worse due to the huge carbon footprint of EV batteries. Elon clearly doesn't care at all about climate change and just callously uses it as a PR trick to deceive hundreds of millions of people to enrich himself.

SpaceX & Mars

Another lie is that humans will be able to live on Mars, Elon Musk's other big project through his company SpaceX. Anybody with any knowledge of Mars would know that is is BS. Of course there is water on Mars, maximum temperatures around the equator can reach a comfortable 25°C (77°F), the planet is about the same size as Earth, and a day on Mars (24 hours, 37 minutes) is almost the same length as on Earth. We could use the water to terraform Mars by making plants grow there. They would probably need to be genetically modified to adapt to the different conditions, but that's a relatively minor hindrance nowadays. After planting massively the Martian atmosphere, which is 95% CO2, would progressively fill itself with oxygen. Sounds perfect, doesn't it? Well, it isn't.

Even if plants could grow on Mars, it will never be suitable for humans. That's because Mars does not have a magnetic field, so its atmosphere is extremely thin. The atmospheric pressure on Mars is only 1% of the one on Earth. That means that even with 20% of oxygen like on Earth, we would need to breathe 100 times faster to absorb as much O2. But we could still live there with oxygen masks on at all times, right? Only if you want to die very fast. The lack of atmosphere and ozone layer means that Mars is constantly bombarded with carcinogenic cosmic rays that would destroy our DNA and seriously reduce our lifespan. One way to avoid this would be to wear a protective spacesuit at all times. Not very convenient to have a shower or have sex (if the aim is to live on Mars like we do on Earth), among others. So yes, humans could live on Mars, just as they could live on the Moon or inside a spaceship in space, but never roaming freely outside, breathing the air and giving up their spacesuit. It's all a big lie. Once again the only purpose is to raise money by playing with people's imagination and dreams, knowing full well that it's all BS.

Twitter/X

There has been plenty of controversy about Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter. One of the latest is that his policy on Twitter has contributed to growth of Russian propaganda. It has also been revealed that nearly half of his 155 million followers on Twitter are fake accounts. How sad is that? He is already the richest man in the world, but he still feels like his ego needs a boost by creating millions of fake accounts to appear more popular than he is. He must have had a very shitty childhood.

There are plenty of other reasons to dislike or distrust Elon Musk. This video is a good summary (although it's already 2 years old).

There are other videos that explain his various lies.

No, he's just another narcissist, who thinks they have the correct answer to every question. He knows better than the generals...

He's just another liar with great marketing that has tricked people into giving him money

As an Atheist I don't believe in the devil. I am using the term in the thread's title as a metaphor for someone profoundly immoral and I'd say evil, as he is ready to forsake the future of life on Earth to make a quick buck.

Musk believes that free speech allows people to share news without bias from the establishment. As a result, many people regard him as a champion of free speech and a hero who stands up for the common man. Fair enough, the controversial business magnate has done some things on Twitter that promote free speech. He reactivated the accounts of previously banned but clearly notable individuals. By releasing the "Twitter Files," Musk enabled journalists to report on the previous Twitter regime's violations of free speech.

However, despite widespread promises to restore free speech, Musk has infringed on it in many of the same old ways since taking over, to the point where the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), a principled and nonpartisan free speech organization, recently declared that "Twitter is no free speech haven under Elon Musk."

One example is that, he has banned users for their controversial speech in the same way that the previous regime had banned people like Trump. So, despite his Twitter promise to uphold free speech, he largely broke his word.

Furthermore, given Musk's desire to implant a computer chip in our brains, I do not trust him. And, as an animal lover who is involved with animal welfare, implanting chips in the brains of helpless and innocent animals strikes me as severe animal cruelty, making Musk repulsive and vile to me. That being said, it appears that there are worse and more powerful people out there than him.

He's a peculiar and mysterious figure who undoubtedly has his own agenda. But he's standing up to groups that have long trampled on the rights of ordinary people. So all in all, he's doing God's work. A white knight.

I'm kind of surprised Elon Musk is so adamant about the U.S. government drafting regulations regarding AI. This will knee-cap the development of progress.

I actually appreciate Kevin McCarthy's position, which I heard on the news yesterday. Which is a "hands-off" approach, allowing it to develop with little-to-no regulation. Personally, I could really care less if it takes away menial jobs, AI is already an integral aspect of my career. I knew it was going to be more than "just a trend". Thus, I became an early adopter, positioning myself professionally. It even earned me a new tech position in my company. It is an indispensable tool for maximizing productivity, minimizing cost, and time for a learning curve. Someone with a high IQ can become a polymath with the use of AI. I truly feel passionate about this topic, for me it is paramount regarding current events.

Normally I think of Marc Zuckerberg in a negative light. But I'm impressed that he supports the open source distribution of powerful AI models. He was defending it at a major conference with other tech leaders and the U.S. Congress.

He's a total moron.

He's like Andrew Tate, even if we need right-wing voices, he's a moron and has a lot of flaws.

Well he's been fired as speaker, now Jim Jordan seems like he will likely become Speaker of the House. There's even a possibility that Donald Trump could become a temporary Speaker of the House, from 30-90 days. Which is unprecedented, but possible.

Engagement on X (twitter) is weird.

I see post that have hundreds of thousands of views, and less than 1% of them yield likes or reposts. Even on very popular and active user pages, they all yield low engagement vs views.

Making matters worse is that pretty often likes and comments come from Porn bots.

Elon Musk is like any other billionaire: he is in the business of making money, first and foremost. He is heavily promoted because there is a culture of billionaire worship and fast money. No one is interesting in actually doing something productive and beneficial to mankind and earning their worth. The main virtue is "money for nothing" as the Dire Straits song goes. That's why you have "influencer" worship, too. It is an era in which worthless, parasitic mediocrities are given a global platform. Elon Musk is far from being a mediocrity but he is not the genius people think he is. He is an investor who was at the right place, at the right time whem the internet took off as a market niche. Same goes for electric vehicles. He rebranded an old idea after General Motors dropped the ball in the late 90s. Investors like him look for a market niche or create it from scratch. They get rich by generating demand because they know that human stupidity is always a safe bet. People will buy almost anything, no matter how useless the product is. Not saying EVs are useless but they are not the panacea we're led to believe they are. Nothing Tesla does is revolutionary from a technological perspective. AI is a farce, an advertising gimmick promoted by companies whose categorisation as Big Tech is equally a farce. Social media and apps are not technology. There is nothing intelligent about AI. Those are merely improved algorithms, working on the garbage in, garbage out (GIGO) principle. We still don't know what intelligence is and how the brain works. Veterans of AI research like Marvin Minsky laughed at these big-mouthed, self-proclaimed prophets from Silicon Valley. Many neuroscientists and linguists interested in brain functions like Noam Chomsky are equally critical of what is sold as AI today.

What also bothers me in this culture of billionaire worship is the belief that technology and human civilisation are brought forward by individual geniuses or "great men." No, all the major technological and scientific leaps forward were funded by the tax payer. The internet to which all those Silicon Valley billionaires owe their wealth was a publicly funded project just like space exploration. Musk's business ventures are heavily dependant on public funding. He is deeply in cahoots with the US government which could be seen again when he made his Starlink system available for the US war effort in Ukraine. His SpaceX company would be a joke without the tax payer.

This obsession with Mars is ridiculous as well. It started way before Musk, of course, and I don't get the fascination. It is probably the most boring and barren place in the solar system. Maciamo already mentioned the basic details about that planet. I would only like to correct him on the size. Mars is significantly smaller than Earth. It's only slightly bigger than half the size of Earth. The possibilities that would make permanent human presence on Mars a practical matter lie far in the future. It would make more sense to live on Saturn's moon Titan than on Mars, despite being much colder. It has an atmosphere similar to ours (predominantly nitrogen), a similar atmospheric pressure (1.5 bar), rivers and lakes of hydrocarbons (the Green Party would go berserk) and a damn fine view. The outer solar system is so much more interesting and challenging to explore. The only challenge Mars offers is the difficulty of landing spacecraft due to the almost non-existent atmospheric pressure and thus no barely any air resistance. Other than that it's a barren desert world with a boring topography and an even more boring chemistry. People like to point to the alleged similarities between Earth and Mars when in fact our planet bears more similarities to Titan and Venus, despite the extreme temperature differences. But Mars is a safe bet and billionaires love safe bets. If that is the philosophy they and the governments adhere to, perhaps they should start with the Moon first.

That's it, X is complete garbage.

I reported a disturbing picture of what looks like abuse of minors, and after a "review", all I got was this message:

What the hell does this even mean? I looked it up on google, and no one seems to know.
