The problem is that the Nazis were legitimately evil. They were hell bent on dominating the world and exterminating or enslaving all those who they considered inferior. As much as I dislike the Bush administration, I don't think they're anywhere close to being Nazis. If the Bushies were acting like Nazis they'd be violently disrupting every democratic get-together in the country and assasinating Democrats right and left. The Republicans have no strong message of hate - the closest they get is their denunciation of homosexuals.

Now, as soon as I hear about Republican brown-shirts busting heads at a Kerry campaign apperance, or if I hear about a national governmental registration of homosexuals, then I'll start believing the comparisons.

Comparing the Republicans, as repugnant as I find them, to Nazis do a disservice to the millions of Jews, gypsies, gays and others who died in concentration camps. Our leaders have done some stupid things and maybe even a few evil things, but nothing on the scale of the Germans before and during WWII.

As for political prisoners and dissemination of fear - look at the drug war. Tommy Chong was 100% a political prisoner. All non-violent "drug offenders" in prison are political prisoners as well - and that's an issue that neither the Democrats or the Republicans are against.

The entire Nazi-Bush comparison is dubious.

But what gets me?

Hitler was a million times more charismatic than Bush.
:frown:

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Hitler made people proud to be German; President Bush has made most Americans ashamed of themselves.

:eek:kashii:

Bush is no Hitler. Hitler could spell.

I'm not ashamed of being American. Luckily, our system was designed to deny the chief executive any real power for any real time. Hopefully the election goes the right way. The whole pre-emptive war thing gives me the chills. When do you think a pre-emptive attack on another sovereign nation is justified?

I think the comparison comes, not directly from the government, but from the climate within the country at the time. For example, during WWII a nation full of people who were no more evil than you or I (Germany) was somehow convinced to follow a madman because he told them what they wanted to hear.

The way Bush has been able to get support from so many people who you'd think would know better, is scarry. It feels like America is willing to believe and go along with anything right now as long as it boosts their own egos.

Until recently I really hoped Bush would win.
I still think he is a better prospect than Kerry.

I have now changed my mind, not about Bush being better than Kerry, but about who should win.

Bush seems to have become so internationally unpopular that I feel he is having a bad effect on America's credibility and reputation. Relations between countries that should be united against terrorism are being badly strained.

Even though I still think he is the better man, I think he should now fall on his sword.

@Mike in Japan...
Wow! I don't know what to say. I think I'm gonna cry. :( At last, someone who wants to do what's going to be best for the country rather than just following party lines. Your conversion gives me faith that there might be hope for America. Let's crack open the champagne. :spray: :romance:

The Israeli government and the German government both released intelligence reports outlining how the war in Iraq has hurt the war on terrorism. Both cited an increase in the number of young Arabs now willing to die for a cause (and guess which one?) They also cited a rise in anti-American rhetoric in the mainstream Arab press.

It seems as though the "no, in fact he's screwing things up more." column is bearing out.

You got it, that's the case exactly. All they have achieved is getting them only more pissed at them.

btw: whee, post 888!

I think Bush has been the opposite we've had of presidents lately.

Usually, we'll have the ultra-careful-ish pres. whom does their best to walk on eggshells to please as many people as possible, and does as little as possible in fear of upsetting a balance of some sort.

And enter Bush, and we have the complete other extreme. Someone whom needs little insentive to stand up and take action, but takes action without clearly thinking things through.

Its an oddly refreshing change, in a way.

Decisive is good only when the direction is smart. Decisive and stupid is probably worse than indecisive.

Who said it was good?

I just think its refreshing.

George Bush-

Was I being cliche? I appologize.

BTW, if you can't get my name right, I won't vote for you.

Ooops, sorry Sabro.
Literacy s not my strongest point.

I am glad you are cnsidring vorting fo me. :)
Around 50% of the American population will vote for me, and every vote counts.
Thankfully the views expressed in this forum are NOT REPRESENTATIVE of the American pubic.

Some people here may think we are stupid ... but if it wasn't for us Europe would be under NAZI control (or communist control).

If it makes Europeans feel any better, we think they are the stupid ones!
Who saved Europe from Hitler? It wasn't the Europeans that's for sure!
It was the same allied forces that have liberated Iraq!; The USA, Britain, Australia mainly!

While certain fools bury their heads in the sand and pretend everything is fine, we are out there doing the things that NEED to be done. Maybe the majority of Europeans don't see the value of this work, but their children will thank us for the freedom we are arranging for them.

Wake up stupidoes!

Well last time less than 50% voted for you and every vote didn't count.

"Stupid": is probably the wrong word. Ignorant, sef-centered, selfish and materialistic might all fit better.

I will consider voting for you again if you explain the "compassionate" part of that compassionate conservatism oxymoron.

Nazism = National Socialism. Naah.

Pacoism - Patriot Commercialism? Nacaism - National Capitalism?

:D
