Last month, National Geographic reported that satellite imagery showed the destruction of the structures near war torn Mosul, Iraq. They write: "The Mashki Gate, known as the "Gate of the Watering Places," may have been used to lead livestock to the nearby Tigris River. The Adad Gate takes its name from the Mesopotamian god of weather and storms."

In a new photo report purportedly released by the Islamic State, ISIS confirms news reports of satellite imagery showing the destruction of the reconstructed Adad and Mashki Gates and a large portion of Nineveh's fortification wall. The photo report was released on ISIS terrorist channels on May 15.

The Mashki Gate was also reconstructed, but it was completed. It too comes from around 700 B.C.

The structures weren't original. The Adad Gate was originally built around 700 B.C. but was rebuilt in the 1960s, although it was never completed.

ISIS views all pre-Islamic structures dedicated to Mesopotamian gods as blasphemy. Previous destructions carried out by the terrorist organization includes Palmyra.

The Mosul operation should have started month agi but it was halted again because the Iraqi military couldn't do any damage to ISIS and instead of letting the Peshmerga do the job they do not pass on the armory send by the US to Peshmerga, because "If I can't rescue Mosul, my enemy shouldn't be able to do so too."

This seems to be exactly the biggest problem for the Iraqi army: the lack of morale. One week ago Iraqi soldiers abandoned their base, which forced the United States to send in more Marines in support, and one of them was killed. Again this time, Iraqi army soldiers almost completely deserted their positions, fearing an ISIS response to their artillery when, in reality, not one mortar shell or bullet hit close to their positions.



The lack of courage of Iraqi soldiers led to laughter among the Kurdish Peshmerga forces stationed nearby in a supporting role. Unlike the Iraqi soldiers, the Peshmergas did not move one inch, kept on smoking, and were surprised when they saw suddenly all the soldiers fled.

“Did you film that?” one Peshmerga soldier asked me, with evident disgust



“This is not the first time the Iraqi army ran away,” said Peshmerga soldier Ali Ahmed, making the case that the Kurds should get more backing. “Unfortunately the world does not appreciate us,” he said. “We have not received much in terms of salaries, weapons or support.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—At least five tonnes of Kurdistan Region’s share of ammunition supplied by coalition forces have been held up in Baghdad, awaiting the Iraqi defense minister’s consent, an official told Rudaw.


Shakhawan Abdullah, head of Iraqi parliament’s security committee said that the ammunitions were due to reach the Kurdistan Region three months ago but need Defense Minister Khalid Obeidi’s signature.


He said that the supplies were donated by the international coalition forces to Iraqi and Kurdish forces for their fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).


“The five tonnes of ammunitions were pledged by Obeidi during his visit to the Makhmour front,” said Abdullah. “But he has not given his signature yet and not ready to send the supplies.”


Kurdish leaders have long asked their coalition partners to supply their arms directly to Erbil and bypass Baghdad as it delays the delivery process.

It seems those Iraqis are more effective in haulting Kurdish offensive on ISIS instead of fighting ISIS themselve.

The internal "problems" have absolutely nothing to do with the problem that the Iraqi state is failed, it's army is not capable of retaking Mosul and making it for the Kurds harder to do on their behalf.

Also Kurdish internal problems are absolutely a joke in comparison to internal feud between Iraqis and the general Middle East don't you think so? Just take a look at Syrian "Rebel groups or Sunni vs Shia war in Iraq. These things are not internal problems it is civil war.
