Here is an article very revealing of the danger of Islam for modern society, including for Muslims themselves. This happened near the border of Belgium and the Netherlands.

VRT : Anaesthetist reports Muslim

An anaesthetist from the Limburg town of Bree has reported a Muslim man that tried to prevent him from giving giving a woman an aesthetic before she had a caesarean. According to the medical weekly 'De Artsenkrant' the anaesthetist was on call at the Maas and Kempen Campus Hospital in Bree during the night of 23 August.
He received a call to attend to a Muslim woman who urgently needed a caesarean section to save her unborn child.

However, the woman's husband prevented the male doctor from entering the operating theatre and demanded a female anaesthetist.
However, no female anaesthetist was available.

The man even tried to remove his wife from the operating theatre.

It took doctors two hours to persuade the man to allow the anaesthetist to give his wife an injection.

He agreed to allow the anaesthetist to do his job providing that his wife's arm was bandaged up at the place where she was injected.

The anaesthetist was then forced to leave the operating theatre and had to follow the rest of the birth from in the corridor, where he shouted instructions to a nurse who was still inside.

My doctor is a woman, but now and then the Muslim husbands go inside the doctors room together with their wifes.
My doctor finds this very annoying, because those men are very dominating towards her.

In Rotterdam the Muslim community has asked for a Muslim hospital where men and women are stricktlu seperated and where the Muslim women have female specialist and nurses.

Well, I am not sure that jealously and possessiveness are directly linked to Islam. If they are afraid that the doctor might do something to their wives, that's a personal problem - most likely low self-confidence. Or maybe such men think their wives are total sluts that need to be controlled at every moment.

In the case of the afore-mentioned operation and anaesthesia, the anaesthetist doctor would be surrounded by nurses and other doctors, so it is not just a matter of "being left alone in a room with his wife". Then an anaesthetist is not a gynecologist and doesn't need to see sexual parts of the woman, just the arm. The fact that the situation was critical and the husband only agreed after 2 hours of discussion providing that his wife's arm was bandaged up at the place where she was injected shows how strongly he felt about it.

If Islam does indeed prohibit any contact (even just talking or touching an arm for an injection) between a married woman and another man than the husband, that is a serious problem to society.

I also disagreed about the fact that Moslems can't talking casually each other, but there is also a moderat moslem country like Indonesia. Most of moslems can shake hands and talking casually.
In the other side, I personally think that there must be reasons why there are so many strict rules in Islam, and I believe it is for good cause.

Why couldn't they have just continued the operation without anaesthesia? They just should had asked the wife before, if she would agree to that. Then it's up to her to decide if a caesarean without anaesthesia, or the hits of her husband afterwards at home are more painful... j/k

Me I am a male nurse and have had countless female muslim patients (also on Zanzibar) with minor treatments, and I NEVER had this kind of problem. I am not sure wether Quoran puts an exact quote on this issue, but anyways this kind of incident is even in the moderate muslim world a great exeption.

But it is true that some people in this world are better off and happier being miserable. As long as they don't try to impose this on others.

This just my opinion, I believe that the problem lies within the community of extremely conservative imams that are propigating this sort of teaching. They believe that Mohammed was given the Holy Qur'an in the 7th century and the words are unchangeable therefore the world should not change.
It does not matter that we are living in the 21st century; for these very strict and devout followers rules that applied in the 7th Century apply today.
Unfortunately I am afraid even the most liberal Muslim believer could be swayed by prolonged exposure to the preaching of one of these conservative imams.

Totally agree with you. But I would extend it to every kind of fanatic thought, even in our society (f.e. Communism, Fascism etc...). In so far I'm always a little worried about keeping people level-headed.

Exactly, extremists on any type are a big problem anyplace they arise. I wonder what it is in some personalities that make them so susceptible to this sort of persuation?

In the US, we for years thought that we saw the worst of this type of thing with Jehovah's Witnesses refusing blood transfusions.

This crosses into an all-together different realm. Islam may not teach this specifically, but there seems to be a pattern in Muslim thought that lends itself to this type of decision being made. Men are depicted as being like savage animals, unable to help a woman without experiencing arousal.
There are numerous examples of this and related statements by radical imams.

Even harder for me to see, what man, no matter how devout he may be, could allow his wife to go through that much pain in the period prior to the operation. What about the possible complications that may arise from prolonging action? Would he have allowed that huge cut to be made in her lower abdomen without benefit of the injection if it came to that? Any devout man can see that there are times where one can dispense with his religious rules for purposes of necessity. Islam seems to create a climate where these types of things happen more frequently than for other groups.

Had the regulatory process could anticipate and prevent cases like this, which is served and obeyed the husband's stupid decision ignoring the health of the patient, while the husband was in check the entire system, where the husband rather would have to be arrested and continue the operation and then sue the husband for violating the health of his wife and the entire operating system of a free, more or less because I do not understand the law, but in these issues laws around the world dares to discuss.

Those situations are by no means can respect in Europe.
