VRT : Mother who killed 5 arrested

VRT said:
The judiciary in the Walloon Brabant town of Nivelles has arrested the mother of five who killed her children on Wednesday. After the murders, the woman tried to kill herself. She has been charged with murder.
...
The police believe the murders were certainly not planned long beforehand but say it is quite clear the woman had gone about methodically.

She has therefore been charged with murder and not with manslaughter.
...
The woman, a primary school teacher by training, had converted to Islam for the sake of her husband and allegedly felt isolated.
...
The husband was in Morocco at the time of the murders.

The question that needs to be answered is "did this mother's conversion to Islam have any role in this tragedy ?"

Hmm...maybe. I think she's not ready enough to learn of Islam's strict rules...or maybe she's just stressed enough from everyday life, like common criminals. Only that.

Infanticide has to be the saddest crime imaginable, all that potential, all that life to live taken away by the persons who are meant to protect and nourish. Its not gender, race or religious specific its just another tragedy of the human condition.

And M that's a bloody stupid question.

It is not in this particular case. The Belgian woman was feeling isolated and depressed because she married a Moroccan and converted to Islam. This psychological torment led her to kill her children out of despair, maybe realising her own life-altering and no-going-back mistake.

Then perhaps it wasn't prudent to include her story in the "islamic" part of the forum.

The feeling of isolation (and its' possible consequences) leading to despair can be found in the dark corners of just about any social institution. Being fat, short, red-haired, poor performance in school, loosing one's job, etc. can all lead to the same tragic end.

The details of this story might be more "islamic oriented" but on the surface it doesn't seem too relevent.

your position as seems to be willing to jump to a conclusion, at least in the initial post, it was simply posed as a ??, not offered as a conclusion..

She is a stranger in her own land immersed in a alien incompatible culture that is not her traditional mode of living..
to suggest that this would be a likely factor in such radical, suicidal behavior as a means to reverse and end this decision on her part is not at all a unreasonable conclusion to examine..

Any non-muslim female who would agree to adopt the ' traditional ' (we do not know if this was the case, but the factor that she did actually practice islam seems to confirm so) cultural requirements of Islam is without question a rather lost, disturbed person of questionable decision-making to begin with,
so that factor as well points to the option that she was possibly a troubled, highly-disturbed woman BEFORE the conversion/marriage and the manifestation AFTERWARDS was a factor of that pre-exisiting disturbed nature that brought her to that point..

I agree 100 procent.

I call this birth control.

Am I a terrible person? Probably. Do I care? Not in the least.
