Society National identity in the British Isles

Does anyone know why did English people stop identifying as English?
In the 2011 census entire England except London identified as English.
But in the 2021 census entire England identified mostly as "only British":

This dataset provides Census 2021 estimates that classify usual residents in England and Wales by their national identity. The estimates are as at Census Day, 21 March 2021.

"The increase since the 2011 Census in people identifying as “British” and fall in people identifying as “English” may partly reflect true changes in self-perception. It is also likely to reflect that “British” replaced “English” as the first response option listed on the questionnaire in England."

"More than half of the usual resident population (54.8%, 32.7 million) chose a "British" only national identity in 2021, which is a rise of 35.8 percentage points from 19.1% (10.7 million) in 2011. The opposite trend was seen for the "English" only identity. This fell by 42.8 percentage points, from 57.7% (32.4 million) in 2011 to 14.9% (8.9 million) in 2021."

By the way, a lot of people in Wales are English immigrants.

If counting "British only" from England as English, from Wales as Welsh, from Scotland as Scottish:

If we go by Maternal Nanny's ancestry, she is a mix of Scot Highlander, Irish and Ethnic English. The Scots moved to England to find work and the Irish immigrated to England due to the Potato famine.

There might be something similar going on; since Scotland is apart of the United Kingdom.
