That seems to make sense to me. It may very well be the case that much of the early movements into the West were during the Chalcolithic (referring to copper and stone using) Age. While reading 'The Horse, the Wheel, and the Language", I came across many archaeological examples of copper weapons. Aside from the more or less expected copper-headed picks or hammer/axes, it showed what were essentially solid copper maces. Copper , of course, has very limited uses for work as it lacks a good hardening agent, but its weight and ease of handling would have given those who wielded such weapons a decided advantage when employing them against Neolithic people.

yes, it makes sense that R1b brought copper based technology from Asia to Europe...

The South Asian inhabitants of Mehrgarh fashioned tools with local copper ore between 7700–3300 BCE.[7]
...
Ötzi the Iceman, who was found in the Ötztal Alps and whose remains were dated to about 3300 BC, was found with a copper axe, which indicates that copper mining existed in Europe at least 5,300 years ago (500 years earlier than previously believed).[2]
In Serbia a copper axe was found at Prokuplje, which indicates that human use of metals started in Europe around 7,500 years ago (~5,500BCE), many years earlier than previously believed.[3]
Knowledge of the use of copper was far wider spread than the metal itself. The European Battle Axe culture used stone axes modeled on copper axes, with imitation "mold marks" carved in the stone.[4]
Examples of Chalcolithic cultures in Europe include Vila Nova de São Pedro and Los Millares on the Iberian Peninsula.[5] Pottery of the Beaker people has been found at both sites, dating to several centuries after copper-working began there. The Beaker culture appears to have spread copper and bronze technologies in Europe, along with Indo-European languages.[6]

copper used at least in 5300 BC in Serbia does coincide with my guess that R1b was spreading from Anatolia via Thrace in line towards west passing south of linear pottery culture.... (linear pottery flourished 5500BC - 4500BC )

timeline of spread of R1b is clear from these diagrams.... at 5300BC or 7300 ybp in the diagram bellow, R1b has already reached from Turkey to Italy.... thus R1b is already in Serbia at 5300 BC when Europe's oldest discovered copper axe was made...
