There is also a recognized correlation between ring finger length and prenatal testosterone levels, which are thought to influence athletic performance later in life. In particular it's been shown that the top 10% best long distance runners average longer ring finger length than the bottom 10%. On a personal note, I also have a longer ring finger than index and am also a long distance runner, however my testosterone levels are totally average for men in my age group.
