I have just made this map to visualise which countries were the most affected by COVID-19. It is based on data from the World Bank Group published on Wikipedia. The eastern half of Europe, as well as India and most countries on the American continent (including the US, but not so much Canada) saw considerable drops in their life expectancy. In the US, the opoids (fentanyl) crisis also played a role. Interestingly Nordic countries as well as Ireland, Belgium and Switzerland were not sufficiently affected by Covid for life expectancy to drop over this 7 years period (although most suffered slight decreases in 2020 itself).
I think that the big increase in life expectancy in Syria and Iraq are attributable to the easing of the war. In places like Morocco or Algeria I would think that the economic growth and improvement in healthcare are to thank for the substantial increase.
