A hoard of Viking treasure has been found in Dumfriesshire Scotland. The find, which comprises of over one hundred pieces, is being hailed as the most significant, in terms of material range, yet found in Scotland.
The pieces which come from Ireland, Scandinavia and Central Europe, include a solid silver cross and a silver alloy Carolingian lidded vessel.
Here are two links relating to the find.

Nice, Hope. Given some of the recent discussions on this site, maybe they left more behind than metal objects!

This guy has quite a record. Maybe he has a special gift, along with a great metal detector!

They certainly did Angela, naughty boys...
On the other hand they did take a fair bit out also, in regards to slaves from across the isles.

Yes, he did find a nice hoard last year, lucky him. Actually there have been some lovely finds by the amateur metal detectorists...remember the Anglo-Saxon hoard from Staffordshire..that was a big one.
They are to be congratulated for the finds and the good handling of them once retrieved, so well done them.
