Thank you for this. I don't think I ever heard it before.
I'm one of those agnostics who wishes she still believed. Maybe I'll go back. In an unexpected turn of events my daughter has started going to Mass again, so who knows.
All actual religious feeling aside, this is the patrimony of the west. How much poorer it would be if we didn't have the wonderful sacred music created by so many Europeans.
Here in New York there is performance after performance of sacred Christian music (as there is at Christmas) and probably half the performers and attendees are Jewish.
It doesn't matter to them. The music matters.
