College students were given a list of 20 potential "hot topics" and asked which ones are the most uncomfortable to discuss on their campus.

I'm surprised that just discussing abortion is still such a taboo in US society, even among college students who are by definition young and educated, and also tend to be more liberal. Imagine when young, liberal and educated people have to discuss with old, conservative and uneducated ones! In such a context many of the topics below would probably be taboo for over 90% of people.

The reason why topics such as abortion and immigration are so controversial in the US is mainly because Evangelical Christians hold such strong negative views about both, which clash not just with the beliefs of Atheists and Agnostics, but also with those of Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, Catholics and Mainline Protestants.
