We have all understood that the real reason why the US invaded Venezuela on
3rd January and captured President Maduro was not to restore democracy. President Trump even managed to convince (coerce?) Maria Corina Machado, the opposition leader who democratically won the 2023 Venezuelan election, to relinquish her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump. The US didn't restore Machado as the legitimate president. In fact they kept the dictatorial regime intact, replacing Maduro with his vice president. The US has to long history of invading countries and installing dictators that are malleable to their interests. Maduro wasn't, so he had to be removed. But what is really at stake here? Venezuela has the world's largest petrol reserve that its infrastructure will take years to rebuild. There are two other prizes at stake (and not a Nobel Peace Prize).
