Twitter was forbiden for like 2-3 days. Because of gezi protests. And some other porn sites. :)

Turks that I know call Erdogan Crime Minister. No need to justify his actions.

How do the Turkish people consider themselves? A western country?

There is two important questions which we should ask about this topic. One is yours.

Second one is how the others see Turkey? A western country or not?

I as a Turkish citizen, prefer term of Balkanian, Causcausian, Mediterranean, Levantean, Eurasian, Middle Eastern

Not a western country. But there is no doubt that Anatolia historically has played an important role in the building of Europe.

I see, thanks.

Turkey is not yet an western country obviously . But it's on the road being a western country. They need time

Which European country is the pure Western?

Example not Spain, İtaly, Poland, Hungary or any Balkan Countries for me

What is the meaning of opposite term; Eastern? Is it about İslam? If yes what we will do for China, Tayland, India, are they Western?

We would need to start with definition of Western. Can you define it?

The origin of term wasn't related with Ancient Greeks but there is no certain defination for today

According to Wiki , origin of modern terms

"The concept has been utilized in both "Eastern" and "Western" nations. Japanese sinologist Tachibana Shiraki in the 1920s wrote of the need to unify with China and some other Asian nations (excluding Central Asia and the Middle East) in forming a "New East" that might combine culturally in balancing against the West.[3] Japan continued to make much of the concept through World War II, in propaganda.[4] In China, it was encapsulated during the Cold War in a 1957 speech by Mao Zedong,[5] who launched a slogan when he said, "This is a war between two worlds. The West Wind cannot prevail over the East Wind; the East Wind is bound to prevail over the West Wind."[6]"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East–West_dichotomy

and Japans put the Islamic world in to the East category. However today term West lost real meaning and facistly, turn into the name of the all good things. Also East lost the real home countries(ex:Japan), and now turn to define Islamic countries.

Really, that's what you understand as Western? Just WW2 Japanese meaning, as a military influence? What about culture, tradition or ideologies?

Sorry, but this is absolutely incorrect. "Western" means partaking of "Western Civilization". A course in Western Civ used to be a required first year university class in the U.S., and should be again. You can't understand your culture unless you understand how it developed.

It did indeed begin with the modes of thought and philosophy of Greece and Rome, although it continued to develop with Christianization, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment, Industrialization etc.

It is marked by a tradition of rationalism that originated with the Greeks and was then developed by the Scholastics, the Humanists and the Enlightenment thinkers. It has grown to ever more value free thought, equality of opportunity, and democracy.

So, no, Turkey is not a western country.

There are places where West mixes with East. You can't put 100% divide, a border, between cultures. Therefore, there are countries with Western and Eastern, and many more cultures, mixing together. It is not black and white issue, as happens more often than not in life.

Exactly, you are right

I have heard somewhere, that the U.S. course in Western Civ did begin with Ancient Egypt. Is this true? o_O
