Till the 1965 if I remember good gheg dialect was the official language. Onward the communist regime replaced it, with the tosk dialect. Even so we still have the four largest city of Albania gheg speaking. Elbasan, durres, Tirana, scodra. So we have more than 60 years of tosk dialect administration but the borderline between the two dialects it's still the ancient via egnatia . Although the standard language is damaging both dialects. I am against a standard hybrid language. No need for that. The old tosk and old gheg shows the evolution of Albanians till todayonce these Gheg children learn Tosk in schools , the demise of Gheg will speed up ......maybe in one generation.
Pity.............another language to go in the world..............one day only English will rule:grin:

Yes. Also during the independent Albanian state used as standard language mainly the gheg dialect of elbasan, which was southern gheg. It was replaced during the communist regime. The Albanian language has been written using many different alphabets since the earliest records from the 15th century. The history of Albanian language orthography is closely related to the cultural orientation and knowledge of certain foreign languages among Albanian writers.[48] The earliest written Albanian records come from the Gheg area in makeshift spellings based on Italian or Greek and sometimes in Arabic characters. Originally, the Tosk dialect was written in the Greek alphabet and the Gheg dialect was written in the Latin script. Both dialects had also been written in the Ottoman Turkish version of the Arabic script, Cyrillic, and some local alphabets[which?]. More specifically, the writers from Northern Albania and under the influence of the Catholic Church used Latin letters, those in southern Albania and under the influence of the Greek Orthodox church used Greek letters, while others throughout Albania and under the influence of Islam used Arabic letters. There were initial attempts to create an original Albanian alphabet during the 1750–1850 period. These attempts intensified after the League of Prizren and culminated with the Congress of Monastir held by Albanian intellectuals from 14 to 22 November 1908, in Monastir (present day Bitola), which decided on which alphabet to use, and what the standardized spelling would be for standard Albanian. This is how the literary language remains. The alphabet is the Latin alphabet with the addition of the letters ë, ç, and nine digraphs.
The first book in Albanian is the Meshari ("The Missal"), written by Gjon Buzuku between 20 March 1554 and 5 January 1555. The book was written in the Gheg dialect in the Latin script with some Slavic letters adapted for Albanian vowels.
Standard Albanian, based on the Tosk dialect of southern Albania, is the official language of Albania and Kosovo
The earliest accepted document in the Albanian language is from the 15th century CE. It is assumed that Greek and Balkan Latin (which was the ancestor of Romanian and other Balkan Romance languages) would exert a great influence on Albanian. Examples of words borrowed from Latin: qytet < civitas (city), qiell < caelum (sky), mik < amicus (friend).
this symbol ç is a catalan symbol meaning an s sound . It ceased to be used by Spain a hundred years ago. It was also used by the French and Venetians, but the the venetians had it as a th sound ( as in thing ) if it appeared at the start of the word.
where do Albanians use this letter?
currently it is being revived as in a health product from south-America Açai ( a berry)

Indeed, you are the one who don't have a clue about history. It's well known that when the ottomans invaded Greece there were no hellenes, but only "romi" . Romi was the word which the greeks called themselves. They had not a national identity called "Greek" nor "Hellenic" . Calling them Greeks was a word used by the foreigners, especially the western catholics. They used such word to deny the legitimacy of the Constantinople over the territory of ex Roman empire. It was for political goals. They felt as Romans, since long times backward. They always felt as a continuity of east Roman empire. The rulers of Constantinople claimed all the time a legitimacy over the former Roman territory . The Greek national identity started during the Greek revolution, 1830 . They quickly started the process of "cathaverousa". It was a process to cleanse the language, or better saying to change their language, into something akin to the ancient one. The Greek state was founded onto the nationalist- theocratic values. Why the west close an eye onto this? Simply, they need a Disneyland. Are you aware what massacres did the Greek nationalists against the Albanian population of epirus? Of course not. You want to see only the DisneylandYou are talking nonsense. The Greeks had three different names for themselves:
1. the Hellenes, which for early Christians was a name thought to be associated with idolatry.
2. the Romaioi, which named them as subjects of tyrants, namely the Romans
and
3. the Graikos, which is of ancient Greek origin. This word passed into Latin as Graecus and as other European countries have languages very greatly influenced by Latin you have the modern English work Greek and Greece.
It was not implemented by the British Empire because it was already used by Greeks living in Italy and outside of Greece generally, long before the Greek Revolution.
They certainly did have national identity and that is clear to see that the minority populations of Albanian, Vlachs and Bulgarians never mixed in to become one to this very day. The Greek culture and their language defined them from ancient times until today. It was religion that changed from pagan to Christian and now back to acknowledging the pagan while still remaining Christian. They were the early Christians (Hellenic Judaism and Gnosticism.) They were under the tyranny of Romans after they were invaded and overrun by the Romans and yet they retained their high ideals, their culture and their language.
You seem to want to associate the Greeks with the Romans who relished in blood sports killing hundreds of thousands of animals, throwing Christians to the lions and other wild animals to enjoy as spectacle. The Greeks never engaged in any such psychopathic garbage. You are trying to imply this with the use of the word Romi that they became Roman or were Roman. And by the way the Roman killed Jesus (if Jesus died on the cross, which I don't believe), whereas the Greeks highly valued him as a spiritual master and avatar of God.
The Romans took a lot from the Greeks and turned it upside down. To give another example. Dionysus was the God of the Wine, which is a symbol of Divine Bliss or ecstasy. The Roman took this and said "hmmm wine, this means debauchery and drunkenness" and adopting the name Bacchus. This is typical of all that they took from the Greeks. And it is the Europeans that have made a huge lie in justifying a Greco-Roman world. The reality is that much of what came to the west from Greece came via the Muslims, who had an appreciation of Hellenism and the values that the Greeks espouse to, but the West doesn't like to admit that its Greek roots come visa the Muslims.
The Disney land is in your head. You don't have a clue about history. You make it up as you feel inclined.
Germans would never do that. What ever do the Turks and Greeks, they always be faraway from the German economy. Just see what situation they have already today. You agree that Greece is a valuable asset of Europe if only they would be able to appreciate it. I was wondering what do you think should be Greece's relations with Turkey. I think if Greece was to encourage a cultural exchange with Turkey to foster better relationship between Greeks and Turks then Greece can have a trade treaty with Turkey and together become a trading gateway between East and West. Maybe then the Germans will be coming to us for loans!
I think that Turkey and Greece have important strategic positions and they can both benefit by co-operation. It is important to put the past into perspective. Both countries need to realize that in crisis times (wars and conflict) it is not the majority of the population of a country that are guilty of wrong doing but always a minority of psychopathic people, who exist in every country. With the view that Greece and Turkey can work together and become true friends we can benefit each other greatly.
Please take this perpetual Albanian/Greek war somewhere else. It's off topic for this thread.

Why won't you be Greek President
The race of the Hellenes has been wiped out in Europe. Physical beauty, intellectual brilliance, innate harmony and simplicity, art, competition, city, village, the splendour of column and temple — indeed, even the name has disappeared from the surface of the Greek continent.... Not the slightest drop of undiluted Hellenic blood flows in the veins of the Christian population of present-day Greece.
1- I never said that there were no ethnic hellenes people. You misunderstood my posts. I just said that when the ottomans invaded Balkans, they had found there people called "romi". So the peasants of the Roman empire felt as Romans, especially during the last period. The name "Greek" was a recent word. These ethnic words began to show up during the 19 century.Ok back to school again,
The first Greek identification as Rum in the East Roman Empire started very early,
when the word Greek ment 'Sinner' Magician
the extermination of Greeks as pagans started from Theodosios, that is why both Churches name him Big
The called him big, not for his military, economical, or law achievements,
BUT FOR CODEX THEODOSIANUS, where he put term Greek= pagan eliminate Rum = Christian citizen
When understand that come back to tell us
John of Ephessus wrote to Justinianus
I found more than 70 000 Εθνικους (Ethnics = Greeks = pagans) around Ephessus
I manage to turn to lowalty (RUms) and true religion (christians) about 36 000
I had to use violence in order to accept the one God, and his ελεω θεου (God mercy) Ruler
the man killed 14 000 pagans (Greeks) in order to turn them to christians (Rum)
PS
YOU WANTED OR NOT,
GREEKS WERE ARE AND WILL BE IN PLANET,
simply ACCEPT IT,
PS 2
AFTER BASILEIOS 2
DOCUMENTS OF EAST ROMAN STATE START TO BE WRITTEN IN GREEK, WHY?
PS3
after the 1rst fall of Con/polis 1204
4 High Greek areas appeared,
1 ΜΥΣΤΡΑΣ
2 ΝΙΚΑΙΑ
3 ΗΠΕΙΡΟΣ
4 ΤΡΑΠΕΖΟΥΣ
ALL HISTORIANS SAY THAT THESE 4 STATE WAS THE RESIST OF GREEKS TO CRUSADERS,
TRY TO ACCEPT
Crusaders is a bad word for Greeks
in my lands Bonifat de Monferat is a taboo word
AS FOR THE MODEN GREEK FLAG YOU STILL FOUND NOTHING CORRECT?
Be careful. Just because you are an anti Albanian, this doesn't allow you to insult people in public . Or you think that the Greek race it's a superior race! ! Now you start to mix the religion with the historical disputes. This is NOT about an Greek -Albanian war at all. This argument resounds loudly with all the problems in Europe. I think Yetos is right about this guy he is a Radical Muslim hiding under a Catholic dress. This is exactly on topic IMO but if you want I will start a new thread elsewhere.
Look at the parallels. The garbage spewed here by this faceless, gutless, war-mongering psychopath, under the banner of "Albanian", is claiming Greeks have no rights to their land, that they have no culture and no language. How different is this from Radical Muslims claiming the Europeans have no rights to their land, language and culture that it is right that they be over run by Muslims and that Shari ah law be established in Europe. All this guy is doing is avoiding religion as the issue, which would make him obvious for a fundamentalist Muslim, he is trying to attack Greeks as unGreek and even that Greek is non-existent.
He is the puppet of the bankers. It is all about money. The bankers /financiers want to keep people fighting, killing, borrowing and spending. That is the way they make money! Honest trading.. commerce is too slow and these guys are greedy and toxic, i.e., psychopathic. They are called the "successful/ functional psychopaths" by the "successful/ functional psychopaths on the inside", within the richest rip-off ever, the pharmaceutical industry, they are otherwise known as psychiatrists. Disease is just another form of damage and the theatre of war inside the home, in the workplace and social spaces.
With military and "health care" spending countries have to borrow and borrow and borrow until war is the only option. In Europe they are looking to create the problem internally, within each and every European country, to unravel society, to put European at odds with Muslim, to incite racial and religious hatred when the vast majority of Muslims are good people. I have had friends from Pakistan, Syria, Iran and Egypt and found them to be good people. It is division in society that the bankers want then they make a killing. They pick off all the depressed property from the people because people can no longer afford it. Their motto: "when the streets run red with blood, it is time to buy property".

At least every place where it's preached the radical religion should be closed. I am against to arrest everyone who think extremism it's good. That's against the democracy. However every imam who isn't radical should not be allowed to preach. He should be banned

... money talks and people listen in the most of the cases.
@Kyrrani99 I got your point and the deep idealistic reasoning motive you deploy and i generally agree...
(As what a Greek could possibly say...)
How we can overrun great issues like Cyprus ?( Not to mention how simillar is to Ukranian issue, with the acceptance of our otan/nato allies and their blessings for that hybridic state.) (-?!)
How we can manage the Macedonian issue?
The East question?
(As a person specifically)
I am motivated from the -"Θούριος" of Rigas (Ρήγας Φεραίος ο Βελεστινλής, ο Θεσσαλός), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rigas_Feraios or https://en.wiki2.org/wiki/Rigas_Feraios
that could explain a lot...
At the bottom line we are brothers and sisters, slaves under the tyrrany of father "damn" Time.
.... the very jewel of the hellenic romance 200+ years before, unfortunatelly it is strange but i cannot find it translated.
Θούριος the poem (full edition):

some "Melos". -"https://youtu.be/7oOqcZOO0u4?t=46
It is very interesting the etymon of the word "-θούριος" (thourios~ impetus; urge; furious;-in some extend.) and the relation with -Άν/θρω/πος , (Anthropos).

What else to say, the Hellenic Romantism still inspires...
I am very happy for you, my Δέσποινα, Κυρά, Αρχόντισσα, Μεγιστοάνασσα ... for being here.
where is from your origins ... make some guesses?
Not from macedonia, not peloponesian, probably islander? close... maybe Dodecanesian, Ionian ?
Excuse my english...
