Commodore Matthew C. Perry. (1794-1858), the man who forced Japan to open its ports to Western ships, which eventually caused the downfall of the Tokugawa shogunate and the Meiji restoration, probably belonged to haplogroup R1b-DF27>Z196>Z209>Z295 based on shared genealogy (descendant of Edward Perry 1630-1695 from Devon, England) with members of the Perry Y-DNA Project (family 11).

It's certainly possible, but he could also belong to I-P37 (family 2, Devon Perrys, including descendants of Edward Perry's brother Ezra).

Ouf, I hope Z196- is well exclusive for non-famous individuals !!

You can also see these kits in the DF27+ project which is one of the most organized ones out there. They have some off modal values from the usual Z220+ haplotypes, so it's a bit of a surprise.

The Ryans of Tipperary are DF27; my maternal line great-great-grandmother was one, and perhaps many more of the noted Ryans in the Irish diaspora could be this haplogroup.

I am not sure if this is a question for this thread, but it is related to R1b-DF27. In 2017 it was published in nature an article entitled "Analysis of the R1b-DF27 haplogroup shows that a large fraction of IberianY-chromosome lineages originated recently in situ". The authors affirm that NE Iberia is the most likely place of origin of DF27 but perhaps new studies have updated this result. Can you clarify this question? Thank you.

John Hancock (1737-1793) was an American merchant, statesman, prominent Patriot of the American Revolution and signatory of the Declaration of Independence. He served as president of the Second Continental Congress and was the first and third Governor of Massachusetts. He was a descendant of John Hancock (1506-1570) from Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Another branch descending from that ancestor tested on the Hancock DNA Project (Group 01) and was found to belong to R1b-DF27 > Z195 > Z198 > Z292 > Z262 > Z201 > Z202 > Z205 > Z206 > Z208.

Another notable descendant of the same John Hancock of Chesterfield was Union general Winfield Scott Hancock (1824-1886). Known to his Army colleagues as "Hancock the Superb", he was noted in particular for his personal leadership at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863.

Braxton Bragg (1817-1876) was an American army officer during the Second Seminole War and Mexican–American War and later a Confederate army officer who served as a general in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. His most important role was as commander of the Army of Mississippi. His fatherline was identified in the Bragg DNA Project (Family 2, descending from Joseph B. Bragg), making of him a member of R1b-DF27 > Z196 > SRY2627 > Z208.

A descendant of Pieter de Carpentier (1488 - before 1550) of Belgium has tested R1b-DF27 (FtDNA Netherlands Project). Looking at geni.com, he should be the great-grandfather of Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies Pieter de Carpentier (1586-1659).

Actor Robert Duvall, descendant of Mareen Duvall of Normandy who migrated to Maryland in the 17th century (Ft Dna Duvall Dna Project).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_of_Torroja

Knight of Crown of Aragon and Ninth Grand Master of the Knights Templar (Solsona, Spain-1.122-Verona, Italy-1.184)-His remains have recently been discovered in San Fermo Maggiore church (Verona) where he died after returning from the Holy Land where he successfully negotiated with Saladin. The DNA has been analyzed (DF27) but is being checked with the remains of his brother Archbishop of Tarragona Guillem de Torroja to verify that it is indeed the Templar Arnau de Torroja. I don't think it will take long to publish the results.

James Webb
1906 - 1992 CE

James Webb was born in Granville County, North Carolina where his father was superintendent of the Granville County Public Schools.
After graduating with a Law Degree from George Washington University Law School, he began a life of public service, which included a stint in the Marines.
He advanced to become an undersecretary of state before being appointed as the second Administrator of the fledgling space program. Webb led NASA from 1961 to 1968, overseeing the early manned space missions, including the devastating Apollo 1 launchpad fire that took the lives of all three astronauts in 1967.
Webb was depicted in two movies, including Hidden Figures.
In 2002, the largest and most sensitive optical telescope ever developed was named in honor of Webb. Launched in 2021, the telescope facilitates viewing objects too distant for the Hubble Space
