Exactly..and nothing more than a sick child. Unfortunately, her treatment can be mirrored in many cases, sometimes even children less than eight years of age were tortured on suspicion of witchcraft. What I think it reminds us however, is how lack of knowledge, an untutored mind, superstition and downright fear when faced with a natural disaster, caused people of those times to act. We all remember Salem witch trials, which came about due to a patch of bad weather, teenage hysteria, groupthink and an eye for a bit of land grab. Frightening times, frightening behaviour.
