This map is based on the data from Democracy Index by The Economist for 2023.

Fragile State Index (2023)

This map is based on the Fragile State Index published by the think tank Fund for Peace and the American magazine Foreign Policy. The index aims to assess states' vulnerability to conflict or collapse.

Perception of corruption (2023)

This map is based on the data from Transparency International for 2023.

Freedom of Press (2023)

This map is based on the data from Reporters Without Borders for 2023.

Global Slavery Index (2023)

This map is based on the scoring system of the Global Slavery Index for 2023. The index includes data on three key variables: the prevalence in each country, vulnerability and government responses.

General trust in government (OECD - 2012-21)

This map was made by calculating the average trust in government for a 10-year period from 2012 to 2021 using the data from the OECD.

Trust in institutions (2016)

This map is based on Eurofound's European Quality of Life Survey 2016. This map shows the overall rating in the eight institutions surveyed, namely: government, parliament, news media, banks, the legal system, local (municipal) authorities, humanitarian or charitable organisations, and the police.

Quality of public services (2016)

This map is based on Eurofound's European Quality of Life Survey 2016. The seven public services surveyed are: health services, the education system, public transport, childcare services, long-term care services, social housing, and the state pension system.

Satisfaction with democracy in own country (September 2019)

This map is based on the data from the European Commission's Eurobarometer for Autumn 2019. The sample size for each country is about 1000, except for Luxembourg, Cyprus and Malta for which it is 500. Note that results from such surveys can vary a lot from year to year depending on current political events.
